A cifose é a curvatura da coluna vertebral para a frente, quando olhamos uma pessoa de lado. A cifose torácica normal varia de 25 a 45 graus, popularmente conhecida como dorso curvo ou “corcunda”.

O que é cifose postural? A cifose postural ou “má postura” é uma deformidade flexível da coluna dorsal, sendo possível sua correção com medidas conservadoras. Seu início geralmente ocorre na infância, quando a criança apresenta um abdômen proeminente, “barriguinha”, e hiperlordose lombar. Dificilmente a criança tem dor.
O que é doença de Scheuermann?
É a “cifose estrutural do adolescente”, geralmente mais rígida, não totalmente corrigível e, às vezes, progressiva. Afeta adolescentes entre 12 e 17 anos com má postura, cansaço e dor no nível da cifose.
Como é o tratamento?
Cifose postural: Normalmente, este tipo de deformidade se corrige com o crescimento. Geralmente, orientamos a ginástica postural e práticas desportivas, como os exercícios aquáticos, por exemplo. Em alguns casos, indica-se o uso de órteses, como coletes e espaldeiras.
Doença de Sheuermann: Geralmente, não é cirúrgico e deve ser feito durante a fase de crescimento. Exercícios e coletes são a base do tratamento.
A cirurgia está indicada para os casos rebeldes, maiores que 70 graus, em que o colete não foi eficaz e dor é a queixa principal. Estética não é indicação de cirurgia. O procedimento cirúrgico adotado é a artrodese vertebral com instrumentação metálica, que alinha e fixa a coluna na posição correta
